Our Friend and local resident, Peter Sharratt, has been busy recently.
He has taken the initiative to tidy up the pavement on Northwich Road by removing soil and weeds that had encroached from The Heath. By doing so, he has widened the pavement and made it look much neater.
Peter’s work has received overwhelming support from other local residents. Passers-by have stopped to express their approval, and several have even joined him to lend a hand.
Recognition of his efforts on social media has been phenomenal, with over 200 comments and 2,000 likes on Facebook.
Starting from Ladies Mile, he cleared a couple of sections between the concrete posts, which took an hour or so. The result of his work put a smile on the faces of passers-by and inspired others to join him. Bill and his son Ezra were first, followed by Robin, then Colin and Dave.
Peter explained, “Anyone can contribute to the level that they choose. They can do it together or solo whenever they want, and with instant success. All they need is a spade and a brush. Job done.” He intends to continue working around The Heath, and we urge anyone who can do a bit to help.
Peter embodies the spirit of caring for our neighbourhood. We can all improve our environment by spending a little time looking after it. We cannot rely on others to do it for us, especially during this time of public spending cuts.
We are heartened by the constant community effort given to The Heath, whether through tidying up, litter picking or nature conservation. We encourage everyone to continue taking care of The Heath and its surroundings in any way possible, as every little bit makes a difference. By doing so, we can ensure that it continues to be a place we can all enjoy and be proud of.
Be aware, though, that any radical work on The Heath itself requires the landowner’s permission.
