Volunteers gather to tackle Rosebay Willowherb
On Friday, 31st July, we were back on The Heath for another round with Rosebay Willowherb, once again led by Tom from Cheshire Wildlife Trust. Despite our good work back in May, the invasive plant had made a strong comeback in the heather area, so there was plenty of work waiting for us.
Round Two for the Willowherb
Our team of fifteen wonderful volunteers got stuck in and, by the end of the session, had covered the whole of the heather area. As before, we purposely left the stand in front of the trees, as it provides an attractive border and benefits the invertebrates that use it.
A Warm Welcome to Cura Terrae
As usual, we had a friendly group of volunteers, including someone from the environmental consultancy Cura Terrae. We appreciate their support in letting staff help us look after this valuable ecological site of Knutsford Heath.
Wildlife Among the Willowherb
That value was illustrated by the variety of invertebrates encountered among the vegetation as we worked. It was a joy to see Small Copper and Holly Blue butterflies flitting between flowers and grasshoppers jumping between stalks.
