Habitat Management – February 2026

Last Friday, we held our second monthly Habitat Management event of the year with Cheshire Wildlife Trust (CWT).

We were delighted by the fantastic turnout. Thanks to CWT’s advertising and booking system, we welcomed volunteers from outside Knutsford, including High Leigh, Holmes Chapel, Nantwich, and Tarporley. Along with our regular local volunteers, we had a combined group of fifteen amazing people.

Tom from CWT guided us as we continued last month’s work, clearing Holly from both sides of the path between Northwich Road and the Sand Pit. At the end, we counted 140 tree stumps. This has opened up the area and given other trees more space to grow. We used the Holly branches to build up the dead hedges along the path, which now give even more shelter for wildlife.

Thank you to all the volunteers who gave their time and energy to make this session a success. Your hard work is making a real improvement to the nature reserve.

Now that the bird nesting season is starting, we won’t be cutting down any more trees for a while. At our next session on Friday, 27th March, we’ll work in the heather areas to reduce invasive plants like Gorse and Rosebay Willowherb. We hope you’ll join us.
