The Heath and the Little Heath are privately owned by the Tatton Estate which is proud to provide this important resource for Knutsford and to host events such as the Royal May Day and the United Kingdom’s largest travelling funfair.

The wooded part of the Heath is leased by the Tatton Estate to the Cheshire Wildlife Trust who bring their resources and expertise in wildlife conservation.

The Tatton Estate has been under the careful stewardship of the Brooks family since the death of the last Lord Egerton in 1957.  As the custodians of Peover Hall, the villages of Rostherne and Bostock Green, and the majority of the last Lord Egerton’s estate which surrounds Tatton Park and was not given to the National Trust, the family are proud of their track record of conservation and preservation.  It has required significant investment but the family take pride in maintaining the charm and character of the communities of which it is part.

The Estate’s ownership and work is not widely known, but its properties are easily identified by the distinctive Tatton red on its buildings.  These include a number of tenanted and in-hand arable and dairy farms, residential properties and commercial premises.

The Estate also provides, on a non-profit basis, the Knutsford Heritage Centre, Sports Club, Football Club and Bowling Club, as well as Ashley and Rostherne Cricket Clubs and numerous other resources such as the Knutsford Moor pool.

Restoring and maintaining historic buildings, heathland and villages with care and sensitivity is a priority.  The Estate combines robust, old-fashioned values with a progressive approach in listening to tenants, neighbours and the wider community.
