We have completed mowing the verge along Ladies Mile using a power scythe provided by Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
On Thursday afternoon, Andy and Becky from Cheshire Wildlife Trust arrived with their superb machine. They efficiently mowed the entire length of the verge, leaving the cuttings on the ground for our volunteers to collect later.
On Friday morning, the volunteers did a fantastic job of raking up the cut grass and scattering it on the opposite side of Ladies Mile, beneath the trees.
Finally, Andy provided us with a batch of freshly harvested Yellow Rattle seeds to scatter on patches of bare ground. This will help boost the population of this remarkable flower, often referred to as the “meadow maker”.

Thank you to everyone who helped, and we look forward to seeing you again next time!
The Ladies Mile verge lies on the Knutsford Bee Trail, and it is being managed as a wildflower meadow. To nurture its development, it will be mown once a year at the beginning of September, and the cuttings will be removed.
