We held our second nature conservation work day in the current series on Friday. The glorious weather brought out a band of amazing volunteers. Andy Stubbs from the Cheshire Wildlife Trust led the event and guided us as we cleared more Holly around the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Oak, continuing the work begun last year.
The volunteers eagerly sawed and chopped the dense Holly. By the end of the day, we had opened up a wide avenue to Ladies Mile. This newly cleared open space will provide two benefits: it will make the commemorative tree visible to more people and allow a greater variety of plants to flourish in the now shade-free area.
We always discover something from The Heath’s natural treasure trove during our work. This time, we found a beautiful Amethyst Deceiver toadstool (Laccaria amethystina) hidden among the leaf litter.
Great days work. FOTH making a difference. Good post Kevin
